Gloves or bare handed?

I am curious...

How many people religiously wear gardening gloves? I just bought three pair (they are still in the package, by the way) as I do every year, but, I only seem to wear them about a third of the time. My career dictates that I have short nails - so there is no nail breakage issue - and I wear protective gloves at work all the time (like a second skin), yet I cannot seem to keep my garden gloves on unless I am working with blackberries or roses.

Do you wear gloves?

I do not wear them consistently like I should, and consequently my hands begin to look (and feel) awful this time of year. If I'm pulling up old plants or weeds by hand I will use them (usually) but 1/2 the time I forget. I bought a pound of A&D ointment on-line (I use it religiously on my hands - it's the best I've found for dry cracked hands.) It was on sale on-line - only 6.00 (compared to 14.00 at the drug stores here!) What's really a good combo is A&D AND to remember to put on the gloves!

Gkids have arrived - must go for now! Have a great one!

I use surgical gloves pretty much for all gardening activities. I like the purple ones from Walmart.

Always, I always wear gloves while working in the garden. Poison Ivy seems to find it's way through here, cat poop is no longer a problem but something I was used to in the past and I have SLUGAPHOBIA.

The only time I take my gloves off is if I'm working with potting soil and planting up small plants that I just need to touch (I love sempervivum/hens & chicks, and just need to touch them) other than that, I wear my gloves (sometimes incredibly tattered but I still wear them).

Most of the time I wear gloves, the thinner ones or I start getting too hot. My Mother wears surgical gloves but your hands get so sweaty and hot. Beautiful blog home Zoe!

Thanks again Kathi!

Zoe and I started this blog this year- to share our gardens with each other. It has been a wonderful experience.

Welcome. :)

I never wear gloves. There's nothing more satisfying than having mudcaked hands and fingernails when I'm done. -Jen :)

I always preferred having my hands in the dirt, but have succumbed to gloves in the past two years. I love Atlas gloves. They converted me from bare hands to always gloved.

I am terrible about NOT wearing gloves; my hands are a mess by the end of spring. I am going to try to do better; maybe the non sterile surgical gloves (what I wear at work) will be less cumbersome as I am used to them.

Thank for the input!

I have the same problem, I buy gloves and never open them. I work with a lot of irritating plants too. I just deal with the rashes if I get them. I need to feel what is going on, maybe if there was a glove that protected but still let you feel I would wear them.

I am sure if I could 'feel' what I was doing I would be better about wearing them. I just found last year's 3 pairs.... unopened.... sheesh.
